Our History

In the late 90’s, Emmanuel Faith Community Church (EFCC) in Escondido, began to sense God’s calling to plant churches locally, San Marcos quickly became a strategic focus.  Due to an anonymous donor catching the vision for this new church plant, a generous gift of $5,000,000 was given to help start this new endeavor. Equipped with God’s resources and the prayers of God’s people, 32 acres of San Marcos dairy property was purchased.

Michael “Chico” Goff was called to become the Senior Pastor of this new church plant in June, 1999 and began a ministry to lead and shepherd others to love God, serve people and change lives.

In October 1999, we officially became Mission Hills Church and began our services in the gymnasium of Emmanuel Faith Church campus.  It would not be until March 2007 that we would move to our new and current San Marcos facility. Immediately upon our relocation to San Marcos, it was evident that God was drawing people to Himself to worship the Lord with us and join our church family.

In 2008 we opened our new Mission Hills Church Preschool. This additional ministry allowed us to further our care, love and teaching of the truth of Jesus Christ with an emphasis on the next generation and their families in our church and community. Our preschool now has six classrooms and over 130 families are touched by this ministry.

After fifteen years of faithful service, our Founding and Senior Pastor Chico Goff resigned his position in February, 2015. God had blessed and used the ministry of Pastor Chico to build a new campus, start a preschool ministry, and most importantly, lead others to love God and honor Him alone with their lives. Our church family, however, would find itself entering a “new season” of trusting in God’s wisdom and direction for His church.

The next season of leadership would involve Samuel Paschall who had served and ministered as our Middle School Pastor (2006-2011) and as our Pastor of Spiritual Formation (2011-2015). After much prayer, the Elder Board recommended Pastor Sam to serve as our Senior Pastor. Since July, 2015, Pastor Sam has served as our church’s shepherd and teacher. In November, 2015 Mission Hills Church called Pastor Jamin Goggin to share in the yoke of pastoral leadership with Pastor Sam. However, they are the first to acknowledge that “Jesus Christ is the Senior Pastor of Mission Hills Church.”

Throughout our church’s history, we have seen God use this church and His people to bring hope and love to our community. Whether it is transforming our campus into a Fire Evacuation Center during the 2007 fires or by extending compassion and provision to our community and individuals in difficult seasons, we have seen God use this church family to bring hope to others.

Jesus Christ came with the distinct purpose of bringing hope to all people, including the hurting, the poor, the marginalized and the broken through His unconditional and sacrificial love which is the only truth that brings hope in a fallen and uncertain world. Therefore, our calling as a church in San Marcos is simple:  “Christ Our Hope.”  We are a church family called in love to share in and be shaped by Christ Our Hope.

Thank you for taking the time to connect with what God has been doing at Mission Hills Church!
