Join us for a Hope Institute study of Isaiah, beginning the week of Oct 8!

If you were an early first-century follower of Jesus and wanting to understand the times, what was the go-to scripture for understanding this new movement of God? The Book of Isaiah!

After the Psalms, Isaiah may have been the most referenced scripture by Jesus. Would you like to begin to grasp this foundation text as early believers did? Come join a 7 week guided tutorial – weekly presentations followed by discussion to grapple with the implications for being a fruitful follower of Jesus today.

The NT gospel is grounded in history of what God said and did as recorded in the First Testament. The scriptural foundation of the early church was the First Testament (2 Tim. 3:14-17). The primary book undergirding this movement was the book of Isaiah. The NT Gospel writers and Paul heavily draw from Isaiah’s writings.

The message of Isaiah might be considered the 5th Gospel – addressing the unrighteousness and covenantal judgment of Judah, the gracious redemption from exile, the Servant King, fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant in extending salvation to all nations, and picturing the final redemption in a new heaven and new earth. Whew!!

The book of Isaiah stands in the middle of the Old Testament as a reminder that Yahweh is the living God who will both judge the world in righteousness and will in mercy save this people and the nations through his “suffering servant” Messiah. It thus gathers up the whole of the Old Testament story and prepares the way for the New. (from How to Read the Bible Book by Book, by Gordon Fee & Douglas Stewart, 185.)
